what are they?
Out of our time period but perhaps of interest. Doing genealogy research and found the following in an 1842 estate list: "1 Rifle Gun & Shot pouch, butcher knife moler and arpus" I'm thinking the moler might be a mold but have no idea what "arpus" might be. Anyone have better ideas on either one? Dave

Re: Shirts...the foundation of all comfort
As I said lots of references to wool flannel, but only one to a wool shirt and that of a runaway slave as you have found. I find that curious. Will continue to look.

Re: Shirts...the foundation of all comfort
Bill,
My 1700,s copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica defines flannel "a loose sort of wollen stuff, not crossed (old double s is used), and woven on a loom like bays. Are you looking for something made out of a wool blanket?

Re: Turn back the water, Moses
I've never had much luck with linseed oil because it doesn't dry completely without a drying agent. The only one I can find is Japan drier. I don't mind wet and I don't mind cold, or at least I didn't use to. But wet and cold do me in. Wool is best for me. Also, I can stand being wet if my feet are ...

Re: Brass snare wire gauge?
Mark, I have used snares albeit not too successfully. I presently have a coil of 24 gauge wire that supposed to be sufficient. I would not go lighter. I have commercial snares that are of small diameter cable used for coyotes, etc. 32 gauge should work but might be a little stiff. Be sure and check ...
